Australia Pinnacles Desert

A Morning Drive Through the Pinnacles Desert

Perth was my first stop on a month-long trip through Australia and New Zealand. My wife and I rented a truck and set out at 5:00 a.m. for Nambung National Park. The Australia Pinnacles Desert was one of the places I wanted to photograph: limestone spires rising from yellow sand, with very little to distract from their shapes.

The changing landscape is what keeps me looking. My Australia photography collection brings together photographs from that trip and other places around the country.

Our travels also took us to Yanchep, Lancelin’s white dunes, Hangover Bay and Wave Rock. Those stops should not be mistaken for one compact driving route: Wave Rock is a separate inland destination. At the Pinnacles, the marked drive and stopping areas let me spend time looking at the formations rather than treating the desert as a single viewpoint.

The limestone spires and open sand also appear in my desert photography collection. For current access, park fees and road conditions, check Nambung National Park’s official information before leaving Perth.

For another side of the country, I’ve written about the Sydney Opera House and my visit to the Bondi Beach Graffiti Wall.
